CCA-337 Modular Sniper Rifle
The CCA-337 Modular Sniper Rifle is the standard anti-personnel sniper rifle of the FLCF, and is a perfect representation of the branch's unofficial motto, "Ready For Anything, Surprised By Nothing". The 337 was designed by the Columbia Conglomerate to replace the aging CCA-489, which had proven to be overpowered and too prone to jamming in adverse situations. The 337 fixes both of these problems by utilizing entirely sealed internal mechanics and a modular part swap system that allows it to fire three different types of rounds. The current version used by the FLCF is the fifth iteration of the rifle, a testament to its popularity and effectiveness.
The stock, pistol grip, forward grip and trigger are all built from nanopolymers that have been laced with tiny threads of Titanium-V to improve durability and crush-resistance. The receiver, firing mechanism, and barrel are all forged from Titanium-V, though the barrel is additionally threaded with Tungsten-II for enhanced strength. These materials are all lightweight and specifically designed for ease of transport, since they are meant to be carried by soldiers and swapped out to change the round fired by the rifle. The inside of the barrel is coated in a thin layer of nanites that produce a synthetic lubricant to ensure ease of maintenance and a long service life. These same nanites are found inside the loading and firing mechanisms.
The 337 features several unique technologies, including recoil-absorbing gel-springs in the stock, an adaptive nanopaint that can change pattern to match surrounding camouflage, and a built in holoscreen that displays ammo count, and battery charge. A built-in rangefinder/scanner and laser sight are mounted directly under the barrel, and coordinates with the gun's computer to modify how powerful of a shot is needed to reach the target. The 337 is equipped with a default CCA998VB-34 Tri-Style Scope that features a digital variable-zoom scope with three modes; standard, thermal, nightvision. For all of these modes, the scope automatically identifies and highlights enemy targets using IFF signals. The barrel is free-floating and can be unscrewed and swapped out with a new barrel, either for maintenance purposes or to fire a larger or smaller round. The receiver and loading mechanisms are both capable of adjusting size to accommodate three types of rounds.
The weapon utilizes a drum-style revolving magazine that is inserted into the top of the stock and locked into place with a large upper latch. The rounds are lined up inside the magazine like a coil, starting from the center and moving outwards towards a hole in the front. A magnetic sprocket advances the bullets around a track to the loading position, where after each shot is fired, the magnetic loading system automatically advances the new round into the receiver. The 337 can utilize three types of rounds; the .338 Thunder, the .300 Lightning, and the 7.80x35 mm Excelsior. The ammo capacity varies by round, with either 8, 10, or 14 rounds respectively. The rounds are all caseless and fired via electrical charge, and a built-in coil accelerator can vastly increase the range and power of the shot based on calculations made by the scope.
