Overview
The United Citizens Navy is the largest and most powerful of the CUAF's branches, and is also the oldest and most well-known. The UCN acts as the front line of defense against the UCR's enemies, and provides military support to colonization and expansion expeditions. The UCN focuses on force projection and the ability to deploy to any location in the galaxy within very short periods of time, but also to ensure swift and powerful responses to threats against the UCR itself. Like the other branches of the CUAF, the UCN is overseen by the Department Of National Defense, but most issues relating to the UCN are dealt with by the Office Of Naval Coordination And Oversight (ONCO). Because the other branches of the military rely on the UCN to move from planet to planet, ONCO wields a significant amount of influence within the military community, and ONCO officials are considered superior in rank to the leading officers of the other military branches.
In many aspects, the UCN is highly independent and separate from the CUAF's overall command structure. The UCN maintains a series of outposts and facilities across the nation, and runs its own deep-space communication network known as the DeepCOM Network, which operates separately from the military's main communication network, GALENET. In addition, the UCN operates its own special forces group, including the Advanced Operations Fleet, and its own intelligence agency, the Naval Combat Intelligence Office, both of which are immune from the oversight of anyone but ONCO. The Secretary-General Of ONCO is the highest non-enlisted official in the UCN, and has ultimate authority over general the branche's operations, subservient only to the Citizens Chancellor him/herself. The Supreme Admiral is the highest enlisted official in the UCN, and directly controls all fleets and military operations.
